Texas Oncology is looking for a Precision Medicine Informaticist Registered Nurse (RN)to join our team! This is a fully remote position that is based out of the corporate office in Dallas, Texas.

What does the Clinical Data Scientist do?

The Precision Medicine Informaticist will be responsible for the translation and documentation of non-structured information into structured data, such as reviewing clinical information in a non-structured, textual/pdf format and transcribing that information into structured data fields. This person will also assist in transcribing precision medicine tests ordered by the physician, receipt, and placement of the results into the EMR, as necessary. This person will collaborate with data scientists within the Precision Medicine Team and clinicians within Texas Oncology and US Oncology Research to identify patients who may be eligible for enrollment in clinical trials. Supports and adheres to US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics Business Standards.

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Partnering with team members on projects to determine data requirements and extraction of that patient data from EHR/LIS/CVP and into clinical data repository.
  • Application of clinical knowledge and familiarity with working with an EMR for transactional patient management notes. Experience with IKnowMed is strongly preferred.
  • Performing data queries within a database and completing chart reviews within specific application(s), such as the EMR.
  • Provide clinical support to the Precision Medicine Team for further education in the field of medical oncology.
  • Assists to identify and resolve problems with applications.
  • Provides feedback on applications to development teams as to workflow processes and technological solutions.
  • Research and respond to routine and complex inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Reviews co-workers’ work to ensure accuracy.
  • Review identified patients for qualifying electronic alerts and recording per protocol. Including weekly, monthly, or quarterly reporting as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned relative to the development of the project Initiative.
  • Participate and prepare summaries for virtual tumor board.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the will have the following background and experience:

  • Bahelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent degree is required. Master’s degree in nursing or clinical informatics is preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years working in a clinical setting with oncology experience preferred.
  • Background in implementation and support of clinical IT projects who have worked on EMR and or Patient Care Projects.
  • A clinical (nursing, med tech, MD) background preferred.
  • At least three + years training and development of training materials experience.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically, knowledge of systems used in healthcare.
  • Experience with data analysis, data management associated with systems evaluation, clinical research, and analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Experience in NLP is not required but would be valuable in this role.
  • Experience in Medical policy documentation required.
